While the average high school graduation rate in New York is 40%, our Dreamers graduate at a rate of 85% or more. This is nearly double the New York City average for African-American and Latino students. Of these graduates, over 80% go on to pursue a college education. Many of our Dreamers are the first in their families to go to college.
Studies by independent consulting and research companies of “I Have A Dream” programs found that:
- Dreamer graduation rates are consistently much higher than those of other comparable student groups
- Dreamers have an exceptionally high rate of attendance in higher education
- School attendance and academic performance are consistently higher
- Dreamers’ educational aspirations are higher
- Peer group pressure is lower
- Fewer referrals to the juvenile justice system
- Lower rate of teen pregnancies
