To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dreamer Service Day this January, New York Dreamers traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit the new MLK Memorial and tour parts of the city.  Their first stop was a soup kitchen, So Others May Eat (SOME).  Dreamers had collected non-perishable foods to donate to this DC-based service organization.  

Next, Dreamers visited the new MLK Memorial, walked to the Lincoln Memorial to see the site of the "I Have A Dream" speech, and finished their day at the American History Smithsonian Museum where they saw a performance of some of Dr. King's most influential sermons and speeches.

Proceeds of November’s musical farce, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and April’s Gilbert & Sullivan political satire, Utopia, Limited, will benefit our Dreamers throughout the New York metro area.

The Blue Hill Troupe brings high-quality theater performances to New York City audiences while raising money for local charities. The Troupe has raised over three million dollars since its founding in 1924. 



The Blue Hill Troupe has twice performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops, and is featured annually in the Metropolitan Museum of Art concert series. On television, the Troupe has been profiled on CBS Sunday morning and the MetroArts/Thirteen performance series.

]]>Teacher's College "I Am A Dreamer Musician" Featured in Teacher's College Publicationhttp://www.ihaveadreamfoundation-ny.org/home/2010/12/22/teachers-college-i-am-a-dreamer-musician-featured-in-teacher-1.html"I Have A Dream"2010-12-22T21:22:37Z2010-12-22T21:22:37ZThe Teacher's College "I Am A Dreamer Musician" program, which offered 18 middle school students weekly music action workshops that enable them to discover, heighten, and enjoy their feelings of self-worth by learning how to create and perform using music improvisation, was extremely successful, according to a recent independent evaluation.  Conceived and led by Dr. Bert Konowitz, Professor of Music at Teacher's College, the program consisted of of seven weeks of workshops and one final presentation.

Dr. Bert Konowitz, the founder of the "I Am A Dreamer Musician," also runs a summer Improv camp, which is in its seventh summer. Both of these programs werementioned in the latest edition of TC Today, The Alumni Magazine of Teacher's College, Columbia University, which can be seen here.

Modeled after private sector equity research firms, the Social Impact Research (SIR) division of Root Cause analyzes and distributes actionable information on social issues and recommends high performing nonprofits to help investors make informed philanthropic decisions.

To do this, SIR selects an issue, analyzes the landscape, collects data, and selects nonprofits that are considered high performing in this area. Then, they publishs social issue, state, and organization reserach reports around particular topics to help social impact investors make more informed actionable investments.

Our organizational report can be seen here. IHDF-NY is extremely proud to be featured by such a well-respected organization and in the company of excellent College Access Programs. We hope to use this report to grow our foundation and individual donor base over the coming year.
