"I Have A Dream" - New York and Teacher's College have come together to launch the I Am A Dreamer Musician Program, led by Dr. Bert Konowitz, Professor of Music at Teacher's College and Founder of the Teacher's College (TC) Music Improv Camp and Spirit Improv Ensemble.
This program allows Middle and High School Dreamers with little formal musical education to discover and heighten their feelings of self-worth by learning how to perform, create and interact through music improvisation. Students are learning and developing a repertoire of musical skills (creating, composing, arranging, conducting, organizing, improvising and performing) that give them the ability to create dynamic musical products, wile building a sense of personal optimism and courage.
The weekly instructional program enables Dreamers to discover how rhythm, melody, form and tone color become tools of personal expressiveness. They also learn how to confront the unique challenges of creating sound, music and poetry for the first time, and will use teamwork and patience to tackle them. Dreamers will also participate in an Orientation Week at Teacher's College prior to the opening of the TC Music Improv Camp 2010, which will prepare them to interact with non-Dreamer campers during the week-long camp in July.
